Impact of Digitalization of Mammographic Units on Average Glandular Doses in the Flemish Breast Cancer Screening Program

چکیده
The impact of digitalization on the average glandular doses in 49 mammographic units participating in the Flemish Breast Cancer Screening Program was studied. Screen-film was changed to direct digital radiography and computed radiography in 24 and 25 departments respectively. Average glandular doses were calculated before and after digitalization for different PMMAphantom thicknesses and for groups of 50 successive patients. For the transition from screen-film to computed radiography both phantom and patient dose data show a significant increase of dose with digitalization. For the transition from screen-film to direct digital radiography the evolution of the average glandular dose depends on the phantom thickness. For 20mm PMMA a significant increase in dose was found, for 45mm and 70mm PMMA there was a significant decrease in dose. The median average glandular dose of the patient dosimetry showed a smaller but significant decrease.

Calculation of Absorbed Glandular Dose using a FORTRAN Program Based on Monte Carlo X-ray Spectra in Mammography
Introduction: Average glandular dose calculation in mammography with Mo-Rh target-filter and dose calculation for different situations is accurate and fast. Material and Methods: In this research, first of all, x-ray spectra of a Mo target bombarded by a 28 keV electron beam with and without a Rh filter were calculated using the MCNP code. Then, we used the Sobol-Wu parameters to write a FORTRA...
متن کاملEstimating average glandular dose in routine mammography screening using neural network
Given the extensive use of common mammography tests for screening and diagnosis of breast cancer, there are concerns over the increased dose absorbed by the patient due to the sensitivity of the breast tissue. Thus, knowing the Mean Glandular Dose (MGD) before radiation to the patient through its estimation can be helpful. For this reason, the MultiLayer Perceptron (MLP) neural network model wa...
متن کاملBarriers to Participation of Breast Cancer Patients’ Relatives in Mammographic Screening
Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common female cancer in the world and Iran and the leading cause of cancer death among Iranian women. One way to control this cancer is to get screened and diagnosed early. Given that screening in the general population is not possible, early detection of this cancer in high-risk women is one way to control it. Mammography is one way to diagnose breast ca...
متن کاملGlandularity and mean glandular dose determined for individual women at four regional breast cancer screening units in the Netherlands.
The nationwide breast cancer screening programme using mammography has been in full operation in The Netherlands since 1997. There is concern that the mean glandular doses due to mammography might be differing between different regions of the country due to differences in glandularity and compressed breast thickness. To investigate regional differences, glandularity, compressed breast thickness...

Abstract Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common form of cancer among women. Diagnosis in the early stage of emergence is the most effective way to reduce the mortality caused by this disease. Mammography, the safest and most accurate imaging test for the identification of breast cancer, required high quality images along applying the lowest possible dose to sensitive tissues of the...
